The Shoppes at Brownstone Village: Salons, boutiques and eats! Oh my!

May 13, 2010

Hidden just passed the intersection of Bowen Road and Abram Street sits what appears to be a petite gathering of row houses. From a distance, it looks like someone stole part of a historical Philadelphia neighborhood and tucked it away in Arlington. However, on closer inspection (and after chatting up one of the shop keepers inside)one will discover a cleverly renovated space bursting with boutique booths of fanciful and crafty items from clothing to home décor.

Once upon a time a roller skating rink, the space at 2408 W. Abram St. has undergone a major makeover to reveal a boutique shopping center called The Shoppes at Brownstone Village.

A variety of shops take residence within the shopping center, including:
-- Forget-Me-Nots, a boutique full of fanciful trinkets, bobbles, accessories and other “girlie” things
-- Flax Linen Clothing, a shop featuring soft linen clothes by Legacy, plus architectural salvage pieces and other accessories
-- El Gabacho, a popular Tex-Mex grill featuring a generous happy hour, good food and a fun atmosphere
-- The Brownstone Village Salon, a day spa offering a range of services from hairstyling to massage therapy

The Shoppes at Brownstone Village web site offers a complete and up-to-date list of all the boutiques and shops it hosts. It also provides detailed contact information for the salon and links to other shops.

Though the shopping center looks like a bunch of row houses, it’s actually two buildings. The main building is larger and on the east side of the property with two entrances on either side. It is laid out like an antique mall full of open booths and shops. The smaller building on the west side is laid out more like a strip plaza with individual entrances to shops and eateries.

Hello Metro Tip: There are two main drives off of Abram Street to pull into. The drive between the buildings takes drivers down the front walk of the smaller building and back to a cove of parking. That parking lot does not connect to the larger parking lot on the other side. For more parking, drivers can enter the drive on the west side of the main building.
