Fort Worth Stockyards rev up for Red Bull X-Fighters
The world’s best freestyle motocross riders will saddle up at the Fort Worth Stockyards On June 27 in the 2009 Red Bull X-Fighters International Freestyle Motocross competition.
The third of five legs in the series will feature a Texas-sized dirt-course design especially for the historic Fort Worth landmark. Its dangerous curves, high ramps and tricky straight-aways are meant to help daring FMX riders impress judges and excite the competition crowd.
Last year, the Fort Worth Stockyards served as the series’ first-ever stop in North America. More than 20,000 fans packed the Red Bull X-Fighters arena, while another 20,000 watched from outside.
This year, fans can get amped for the action with live music, food and drinks at the free Ramp Up pre-party from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Historic Livestock Exchange Building at 131 East Exchange Ave. The band lineup features Chase Ellis & Longfall at 2:30 p.m., the Matt Stapp Band at 4:30 p.m. and the Ryan McBride Band at 6:30 p.m. The Ramp-Up pre-party will have concessions.
The main motocross action starts when the sun goes down, around 8:30 p.m., in the giant Red Bull X Fighter motocross arena along East Exchange Boulevard. The competition goes all night until all the riders have shown their best tricks and stunts.
The riders in this Wild West meets motocross world series include previous Red Bull X-Fighters winners Mat Rebeaud of Switzerland, Dany Torres of Spain and Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg of the United States.
The lineup follows with Eigo Sato of Japan, Thomas Pagès of France, Andrè Villa of Norway, Nate Adams and Adam Jones of the United States, Robbie Maddison of Australia, the Guinness World Record holder for longest motorcycle jump; Robert Adelberg and Cameron Sinclair, also of Australia; and Levi Sherwood of New Zealand, who won Red Bull X-Fighters Mexico earlier this year.
General admission starts at $10 for a kids (12 and under), $20 for adults, $40 for seats in the North and East Grandstands and $50 for the Premium X Grandstand. Tickets are available online.
Fans will find designated event parking along East Exchange Boulevard. Parking costs $10 before 2 p.m. and $20 after.
