Dallas Roller Derby: The grrrlz slam out tough love for Valentines
Looking for a sweet smack this Valentine’s Day? Nothing says love like a bunch of seductive-looking tough girls ripping it up on roller skates.
This Sunday night the sexy, rockin’, hard-hittin’ chicks of Dallas’ Assassination City Roller Derby Special Ops team take on the Dirty South Derby Girls of Atlanta in the "Love Is A Battlefield!" bout.
It’s a double feature, followed up with an exhibition bout between special Assassination City Valentine teams, the Sweet Tarts (the good girls) vs. the Heart-Ons (the naughty ones). The roller girls will be fighting to benefit the Dallas Womens' Foundation with a portion of the night’s proceeds.
The whistle blows on this special Valentine’s Day themed bout at 7:30 p.m. at Dad's Broadway Skateland in Mesquite. It offers a little something for everyone including games, prizes and live music from The Jungle Rockers from Austin and DJ Sista Whitenoise.
For those who have never had the pleasure of taking in this hardcore sport, it’s full of fast action, high drama and physical trauma. It’s BYOB, except they ask fans not to bring glass containers. Attendees can also bring their camping chairs, homemade signs of team support and super rowdy cheering voices.
Best of all, it’s a super-cheap date—$15 at the door or $12 in advance at Pluckers on Greenville, HD Tavern in Lewisville, Dad's Broadway Skateland, or online at acderby.com. Plus, kids under 10 get in free.
Beginning in April, Assassination City Roller Derby, a member of the nationwide Women's Flat Track Derby Association, will host its regular season home games on the third Saturday of every month at Dad's Broadway Skateland in Mesquite. The team schedule and information on season passes are available at acderby.com.
