Fuel CityFuel City has some of the best tacos in Dallas and the state available 24 hours a day along with one of the most interesting venues in the city. It’s a one stop shop, of sorts, with an amusement park atmosphere. it’s a gas station/truck stop, a carwash, a swimming pool, longhorn ranch and a taco/corn stand all in the shadow of Downtown Dallas.
The thought of eating anything that could possibly be good for you from a gas station convenience store shouldn’t stop you from trying these tacos. I was introduced to Fuel City tacos by the cameramen who would drive around the city looking for stories when I was working overnights at FOX4 News.
These small bites of heaven are scrumptious and seasoned just right with the traditional Mexican spices – cilantro, lime juice, cumin and onion. The breakfast tacos made with egg and either bacon, chorizo, potato or regular sausage are only available between 5 and 10 in the morning. I like the egg and chorizo – traditional Mexican sausage. It’s not too hot. But, once you add their sauce it’ll clear out your sinuses. Their 24-hour tacos feature beef fajitia, picadillo and barbacoa, pork pastor and chicken fajita. The chicken fajita taco comes with grilled onions. The picadillo is made with ground beef and potato sautéed in the usual Mexican spices – a third generation recipe.
Fuel City has only been open for a decade but it’s already a Dallas landmark – need I say legend – complete with bikini clad girls posing by the pool in the summertime while waving to the customers buying beer through the drive through window. It’s kitchy Texas at its finest – an attraction and sustenance all at once – a definite must see.
Hello Dallas tip: Fuel City also features the cheapest gas in town.
