Al’s HamburgersFor more than 50 years, Al’s Hamburgers of Arlington has served wholesome and tasty diner-style fare to local residents and visitors from all over. With simple signage (just “AL’S” in big red letters) above its door at the corner of Collins Street and NE Green Oaks Boulevard, Al’s Hamburgers welcomes diners in for a satisfying breakfast, lunch and dinner. Back in 1957, Al’s started out as a drive-in hamburger joint that was located closer to Interstate 30. It remained there for 30 years. As the times changed, Al’s remained a family operation, but moved its operation to its current location as a walk-in and sit-down diner. The most popular item on the menu is the classic double cheese burger followed by their famous chicken fried steak. Other favorites from the lunch and dinner menu include French fries cut fresh daily, Al’s chili, grilled chicken sandwiches and hearty salads. Al’s breakfast menu offers hot pancakes hot off the griddle, crispy French toast, and omelets built with fresh spinach, mushrooms, onions and other choices. The atmosphere is friendly with a local flavor. The energy from the bustling open kitchen adds to the lively mood of the dining room, while the sizzle from the old-fashioned grill creates an unmistakable soundtrack. Though the style and menu may bring to mind the image of a greasy spoon, Al’s has put together a menu full of fresh food with a greater focus on flavor. Since 1993, Al’s has offered a menu virtually free of trans fats. No fats or oils are added to the grill, allowing meats and vegetables to cook in their own juices. Meat and produce are delivered to Al’s daily, including the lean ground beef it uses in all of its hamburgers. In addition to its food menu, Al’s also offers a range of beers and liquors from its small but lively bar. HelloMetro Tip: After all the years its doors have been open, there’s no bad time to visit Al’s Hamburgers. Even during the lunch rush, the average meal takes about 11-13 minutes from order to table delivery. However, if a patron is hoping for a quieter visit with a smaller crowd, the best time to visit is after 1:30 p.m. - by Jenn Emerson, Dallas Reporter for HelloMetro (Click to leave a message) Jenn EmersonA veteran of the advertising world, chances are you bought, drank or drove something because of Jenn’s ad copy.
