Eddie V's Prime Seafood: A no-fail date destination

May 2, 2010

If you’re a fan of the movies of the '30s and '40s you know all about the supper club scene.  It's all about the small round tables with the white tablecloth, the little lampshade on the tealight in the dimly lit room, and the well dressed couples taking a turn on the dance floor before or after a sumptuous dinner – a place where grown-ups can act like grown-ups.

That’s the scene at Eddie V’s Prime Seafood.  On a recent night, the Kris Kimura Quartet played jazz standards in the background – soft enough to carry on a conversation – but loud enough to tap your toes to the beat.

The A-list scene complements the excellent food. Eddie V’s has something for everyone – sumptuous steaks, succulent seafood and inventive vegetable dishes a vegetarian will love.  And, if you’ve forgotten your reading glasses, Eddie V’s staff even has an array you can borrow from to peruse the extensive menu.

The Louisiana oysters were fresh and creamy – accompanied by the traditional cocktail sauce paired with the spiciest horseradish around. You can also choose to dip your oyster in a sweet Asian rice wine sauce.  The crab cakes are all succulent lump crabmeat. The New England crab claw appetizer came with the tastiest honey mustard sauce, with a hint of heat.

Eddie V’s version of the caprese – tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil salad was done well.  Eddie’s riff is adding red onion – a great addition.  The tomatoes were sweetly ripe and the mozzarella was creamy.

The all-American entrees are either surf or turf – steak or chicken.  But, the sides are the star – the crab fried rice with mushrooms is a tastebud’s delight.  The creamed spinach is delightfully smooth and creamy.  And, even though it’s a night for adults, Eddie V’s Mac and Cheese is amazingly good – you’ll be fighting over the leftovers with your five year old.

HelloDallas Tip: Don't miss the Happy Hour food/drinks between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays.  There are half-priced appetizers and specially priced drinks, not to mention the after-work eye candy around the bar.
