On Tuesday in Allen city there was a barn fire that killed at least 17 horses, possibly more. The owners watched and waited to find only three of the horses had survived.
Allen Fire Rescue have not determined the cause of the fire yet. Assistant fire chief, Kurt Hall, said he was one of the first firefighters to arrive. He said he had never seen such a blaze in his 20-year career.
A 14 years old, Emmanuel Sanchez., moved his quarterhorse El Cadete to a stall on the property a month ago. Him and his mother rushed over there when they heard the barn was on fire. When they arrived everything was ashes.
Emmanuel said another horse owner who took care of El Cadete arrived at the property shortly after the fire started, when their horses were still alive. The two animals were kept in a smaller barn that had yet to catch fire as the main structure was engulfed in flames.
When the man held out the keys to the stall and asked to free the animals, he said, fire officials told him it was too dangerous. Emmanuel was angry when he heard this. He said there was still a chance to save both horses. Emmanuel had raised him since he was 8 months old. Ever since the fire he has had a hard time sleeping, and misses him so much.
