Lancaster High School Reviews

It's not much worse than other schools, but lacks money. If you want resources, be prepared to find them yourself.

I'm the parent of a child at Lancaster High School. Despite some of the earlier comments, my child has had good teachers and is excelling academically. To just negatively generalize all students attending this school is wrong. My child and many others are well-behaved and doing the right things to succeed. Parents, put yourself in your child's shoes for a moment. If you were a student and read comments that devalued your hard work and commitment to obtaining a good education, how would you feel? My definition of a great school is one where the administration and teachers care about their students. From personal experience, I've seen that at LHS.

The students are out of control & the teachers are just there to get a check. In my 7 years in this district, there has only been 2 teachers who made a difference in my kids lives. My kid is sitting in a spanish class where the original teacher quit & the sub does not speak spanish. I walked in the class one day & the students were calling role while the sub appeared to be just BSing around. Homosexuality if a way of life. Regarding the other postings about this school that says they are from the parents....I don't believe that crap. I can't think of one parent that I've come across in 7 years that's pleased this district. As far as PTA meetings, I've joined & never received any info about it and has never gone to a meeting.

To echo the sentiments of parents who responded earlier, I'm pleased with this school.

I'm a Lancaster High School student and my experience has been a positive one. The bottom line is that students who come to school wanting a good education will get one. Throughout my time here, I have had very supportive teachers. There are rules and some of the policies are strictly enforced. For those of us who follow them, it isn't a major issue. I have relatives who attend different high schools where order has completely broken down to the point that all students' education is negatively impacted. That is not the case at LHS. Our school has a great future ahead of it.

I am not to please with Lancaster High School or the Lancaster ISD Staff. Being a student coming from from Irivng ISD I was not able to adjust to the enviornment. I basically felt like a student transferring to a school in Crenshaw CA. The principal Roosevelt Niven is more concerned about diciplince and seems as if he doesnt care about us the students. To be quite honestly I feel as if I am a money bag walking around just to put a quick dollar in some of these teachers pockets. I rate LHS a 2 out of 10

I attend Lancaster High School and I am very pleased with this school. I have great teachers who care about their students. Although some people continue to make disparaging comments about LHS or look down on the students who go there, it is not a bad school. I'm proud to be a member of the Tiger family.

I attended Lancaster High School my whole 4 years of high school. I feel that the school district as a whole needs reorganization. I have never came face to face with such rude, unorganized people. From the principal on down, this school justify the thought of 'schools in the hood, performing lower than schools in the suburbs' because these such a lack of encouagement. The school seems to focus more on disciplinary issues than academics and encouraging its students to be all they can be. I would never sent my children to this school because I would not want them to go throught what I went though.

I am an involved parent at LHS and I feel we are making good progress in educating children. Communication is key when the outcome is learning and parent involvement. There are some very devoted teachers and staff members at our school that I feel really put 'Children First'. Let's stay positive and have open and honest communication via email or phone with our teachers and staff. It takes all of us working together to make sure all children achieve their highest potential.

i currently go to LHS and i believe that there should be more parent involvement and more teachers taking responsibility for what and how they teach. the students need to become more interested in their work. I also think we should be changed to a performing arts school. there are so many talented children at this school but they just dont know how and when to express themselves.

I am a mother of three kids in Lancaster schools. My oldest son attends Lancaster High School. I agree with the posts made on February 19, 2009 and April 2, 2009. As an active parent, I have witnessed the improvements that have been made recently. The good things that are happening at this school rarely make the headlines while anything negative gets blown completely out of proportion. Those stories are then seized upon mostly by people outside of the district who use it as a way to bash or unfairly stereotype all Lancaster students. An overwhelming majority of LHS students are good kids doing all the right things. I am satisfied with the education my son is receiving at LHS. He attends a state-of-the-art campus with the latest technology, has a wide variety of activities and programs to choose from, and my experiences with his teachers have been favorable.

TAKS scores will not be back for the High School until May!!!! I am sure that our students will prove all the 'haters' wrong. I challenge the pessimistic people who, most likely, have not even been on our campus to witness the outstanding things happening at LHS. Can you imagine someone telling you child they are failures and there is no way they can make it in life? that is what you are doing to the students at LHS when you bad mouth and attack the school. Don't assume everything you hear is true. Get informed of the facts - then talk!

I hated going to Lancaster High until this year, now we have a challenging program (IB). I enjoy what we go through at this school and I know that it will better my future. I encourage any parent who wants their child to have the best future to enter them into the IB program at any school that provides it.

LHS has continued to make progress this year. We have great administrators who care about our students. There are also excellent programs and course offerings for highly motivated students. Lancaster is a nice community with a high school bursting with potential.

I am really disappointed in the new High School. All The schools use to be recognized schools and now they are low preforming schools. I feel when you have Problems with the top administrators it filters to the bottom. The teachers are unprofessional, there diction and speech is worst than street thug lanuage.

Lancaster is an improving district, the administration is really improving, it's growing pains.

I believe in the leadership and staff at this school, trying to provide the best education we can for the children in our care. it takes a long time to turn a big ship, but the commitment is there.

this school is very strict but its for the best. because some parents dont teach there kinds how to act. some teaches just want a check and could care less about the kids and our problems.

This school should be avoided in any way possible. Do not work there nor send your child there. The management of the school is inconsistent, confusing, and reactive instead of proactive. Good teachers refuse to work there, so the only teachers Lancaster can get are beginning teachers who find jobs elsewhere as quickly as possible and justifiably so. Lancaster is nothing but an inner city school that just happens to not be in an inner city. Assistant principals are so overwhelmed by discipline problems that they have no time to do anything else that could help the school to get better. The school clientele (students and parents) come from a culture of poverty. They don't think they should follow rules, even something as simple as a dress code. This place is just unreal and should be avoided. It has to be one of the worst high schools in the state.

I really feel that the district is much more worried about breaking rules like wearing a clear belt instead of a black or brown one. The administrators and teachers stick together and there is no disputing anything any one of them says you are wasting your breath. Your child is wrong all of the time no matter any of the circumstances leading up to the suspension. The staff from office to administration is unprofessional and child like. They bring themselves down to the children's level rather than handling issues as adults and leaders should. This year already 3 weeks into the school year I have filed two complaints on the unfair treatment of my child. There are a few teachers who care but they are outnumbered!

Lancaster High school needs a lot of improvement especially the teachers
This review was posted by a parent.

The Lancaster ISD needs complete overhauling, staff and teachers. They teach with no direction, no vision. This is apparent in the performance of the students. The teachers don't remember the students unless they have been in trouble, what a unique way of labeling. The communication between the school and parents is almost non-existence. When something is happening usually the parents find out when it's over or past. When the teachers should be available for the parent/teacher conference they aren't. Many of the teachers don't know the average grade in their class, so they can't possibly know how effective their teaching is. Bottom line Lancaster ISD needs teachers who want to be there and want to teach, not teachers who chose this as an alternative job.

I think the school is coming along fine. I feel that the school could use more seasoned teachers and reduced size of class per teacher in order to create a better learning environment.

Lancaster isn't the most amazing school in Texas but if you are actually interested in learning then the teachers will go out of their way to make sure you learn something.

The Teachers are very didicated to helping the students to pass tests. My brother had some obstacles prior to graduation and the staff worked with my parents to make sure he graduated on time.

My son attended Lancaster High school, it a pretty good school if your child is in the AP or gift and talented program.

My children have attended Lancaster High for two and three years and it is the best of five schools they have ever been to. the teaching is very good.

My son has attended Lancaster ISD for two years now. Now that he is in high school he has been subjected to demanding peer pressure. Students are rude, inconsiderate and have no respect for teachers, parents or themselves. The first two six weeks of school my son was without a World Geography teacher. We need teachers to teach and not try to be friends with the students. I am astonished to the fact that he hardly ever has homework in any of his classes. Where is the reinforcement for the students? Also, I know Dr. Lewis is trying to change Lancaster but if we do not get the parents involved and demand involvement the school environment will never change.

I have 4 students at Lancaster High. Im very unhappy with the teachers. No communication you send emails. The teachers act as though your bothering them when you speak with them about your student. I wish I would have done more research on the school before we purchased a home in the Lancaster area.

I have been disappointed in the level of education my children have received. The focus is on sports and many parents transfer their children to Lancaster just for that, but be certain they will have trouble passing the SAT. Quality education is more important to me and is the reason why I will not send any more of my children to this school.

I think that LancasterISD is Trash,we spend several days on the Science Project when my son/daughter turned the information in they only wanted the poster board and not the actual experiment, what's the purpose of completing the Science Projects? They will suspend students who did not turn in the information. Every break students have assignments, which I don't mind the summer break assignments but Thanksgiving,Christmas, Spring Break that's not good.

In Lancaster High School there are numerous extracurricular activities. They have sports that everyone can play, and they offer a great band program. When it come to academics the school can be lacking. The school board expects every student to be at least one AP class, yet they do not have the proper instructors or the material that a students needs to succeed in these classes. The school boards takes no notice of various complaints from students and paretns. There are few faculty members that have a degree required in order to insure the students understand the broader concepts of AP learning.

The way the school is set up with the freshman seperate than the upper-classmen is fine to me.

Lancaster school district is in the middle of a population explosion. We have passed a $110 million dollar bond package that must be used for new construction or renovation of existing structures ONLY! We will finally have much needed room for student education. New Teacher Academy,International Baccalaureate Program, high teacher retention, highly qualified certifed teachers,as well as, administrators are just a few of the many reasons why Lancaster I.S.D. is on it's way to becoming an exemplary school district. Parental involvement needs to improve dramatically for educational success to be realized. Less complaining, more committment!

This school is one of the worst high schools tha t my children have been to in the dallas area. it is poorly organized and they have a bad reputation for suspending students for even the smallest infraction of rules. Teachers don't teach, and a lot of them have very bad attitudes. It is like a jail.

In this age where kids cannot give change for a happy meal without a calculator, it seems about right that the teachers are continously frustrated with the lack of parental involvement at home. My kids attend there because it's the only game in town I can afford. The problem here is the lack of discipline, that is extremely apparent, on the part of the kids. The aggressive attitude that comes with the lack of respect for all involved.

Lancaster is the worse school in the Dallas area. The teachers don't teach at all. Children are running around the school acting crazy. Kids are fighting instead of learning. Ther's more kids in JJAP than in the school. I wouldn't recommend any parent send their child to Lancaster High School. You will have a better chance at Wilmer Hutchins High School.

I have 4 children that went and graduated from this school.....I can say that this last school year was my absolutely worse experience at this school......I have always been very active in the school district served on various committees but this year the new staff (mainly administrators) did not welcome the pta or volunteers in.....Even though the new superintendent asked each parent to committ to volunteering in the schools....I tried.....And done what i could.......I know for a fact that if parents are involved student achievement is increased for the better......My child got into more trouble this year than ever.......Not good....I have spoken with several veteran teachers and administrators and they don't like the current situation either.....There is a greater focus on extracurricular activites and not education as a whole.

When my children entered this school there were many teachers who were both uncertified and incompetent, some teaching honors and pre-AP courses. There has been substantial improvement in the last year and the quality of Teachers is greatly improved although district priorities seem to be out of whack, in that a bond was recently passed which spent millions for new athletic facilities while the current AP-Physics classes do not have enough text books to send them home with students. The TAAS/TACS issues is a crippling program with which public schools throughout the state must contend. Most public schools have learned that success is measured not in what the kids have gained in cognizant skills but in what they can recant during a two day testing period. True learning suffers at the expense of testing well.

Lancaster Elsie Robertson High School is adequate for school education, and lags not far behind Bishop Dunne Private School. Most parents who have major problems tend to be bigots and send their children to schools without racial diversity. As long as your student is attentive and enrolls in mainly honors courses they should do fairly well. In most of my subjects I seem to have brillant teachers, and in those that I don't it may simply be a comprehension problem on my part because physics and chemistry are not my strong suits, but I believe if the principals, teachers, parents, and students keep striving for greatness then we will one day be a school others admire.

This school is alright. Some of the teachers here are there to teach while others are just there for the pay. I would recommend a child to take the dual credit classes here and as many honors classes that they can stand. In the normal classes teach on a below average level while in most of the honors classes they teach on an average to slightly above average level.

Terrible school do not send your kids here they will learn nothing they would almost be better off at a home school. This is the worst school in the state. The will only learn how to pass the TAAS. Some of the teachers are good but even the good ones are bogged down by the forced TAAS assignments if this school was good at all they wouldn t have to teach the TAAS the kids would know how to pass in the first place.
